I’m Very Annoyed

That game sucked pretty bad. I would love to go in to long rambling details on what was wrong and what was right (very little) and vent but I shouldn’t even be writing this because my cold or flu or mutant virus from hell is getting much worse as the day goes on so take rain check my friends.

All I can say is Sasha Bear and Schultz looked the best out of all which was still not very good even then. Green and Ovie were just okay which did not please me. I am now going to go through my self under a bus or something. Anything to stop the pain of this cold and the Capitals.

And Now Bring Forth the Sacrifice

Oh, wise and loving Hockey gods; we the humble fans grovel at your benevolent feet and ask once again as the season comes for you to heed our prayers;

Please grace the Capitals with your good favor and smile upon our players. Make them solid of bone and many of teeth. Put a pep in their step and a good brain in their heads.

And, if you have a little extra favor and time let the Blackhawks have these things also. But, if you don’t give it all to the Capitals please.

In regards to individuals;
Keep Laich safe from all his creepers; we need him unstalked.

Please let Semin keep on his feet; make his ankles strong and his back straight. Also let him keep his anger managed; maybe get him one of those little foam angry squeeze things with the poppy eyes?

Bless Backstrom with some cookies to eat as long as he keeps on being awesome; the boy’s getting too thin if you ask me.

Allow Green to keep his shoulders solid and allow him to come to terms with the fact he is a white boy from Canada.

Give Flash one of those pamplets about long plane rides and those silly stretches your supposed to do but make you look like a wierdo they have in the seat pockets on airplanes because Flash obviously didn’t read it.

Let Toews of the Blackhawks to keep on being adorable, teach him that a boy with a long face should not spike his hair, and make him a little less gullible.

Allow Burish and Sharp also of the Blackhawks the gift of Toews being a little less gullible I’m sure they’d enjoy a little extra challenge. Also protect other people from Sharp’s stick we need some hockey players with the ability to reproduce.

Let Patrick Kane keep his head on straight and his toe’s in line. Allow him to do something good so we can all love him guilt free again.

Keep the Blackshawks’ front office out of trouble they are the ones causing me chest pain.

Keep Matt Stajan’s face, of the Maple Leafs, away from both the ice and spherical hurtling objects.

Keep the NHL and the NHLPA from self imploding ALL hockey fans would appreciate it.

This is what we ask of you, the Hockey gods, for this season it is not the last or the least but I think it is not much to ask.

In the name of the forward, the defensemen, and the goalie: amen.

Because There’s Nothing Happening

There is absolutely NOTHING going on in Caps hockey. While there is a lot going on outside the Capitals world; MORE extremely long front loaded contracts being signed, and NHLPA is basically falling apart.

In fact there are only a few things going on in the Caps world and it isn’t exactly news. Mainly Mike Mike Mike. Hockey is my Boyfriend discovered through extensive effort that Mike Green’s (?) website Greenlife52.com is in fact, drum roll please,… http://hockeyimbf.wordpress.com/2009/09/02/thank-you-al-gore/

More pictures from the Russian Olympic camp:

photo1

This was my personal favorite. (I still can’t believe that’s Semin; well hello)

In Mike Green/New Haircuts news: Mike has a very square head I realize/is bringing back Johnny’s hair cut.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/capitals_imageoftheday/3878664799/in/photostream/

My convention passes came in the mail yesterday. Their beautiful. But the letter that came with it stated that we aren’t allowed to choose what players we get autographs from and we aren’t allowed to take photos at the table. Okay so there’s only three players I wouldn’t want to meet and I can deal with two of them if there with some one else. The only player I couldn’t stand to meet is Nyls.

Then it says there will be opportunities through out the day to take pictures with both former and current Cappies which I’m not overly sure what that means.

I’m very excited plus I may finally get my self a jersey if they have the womens sizes because as several people can attest to even the small men’s (or jersey purest) jerseys are really large on me; arm’s two inches past my hands, I could fit another of me in there width wise, and actual torso length too short. I’m tall and skinny and makes being clothing a pain in the butt, I have to sew up any hockey t-shirts I buy to my size which is a bit diffucult in a jersey huh?

But WORST is deciding who to get on the back! I don’t know I can’t choose! Semin? Laich? Brads? Stecks? Gordo?! I can’t choose I love them all. And, don’t forget we have Knuble now. I suppose I could get a blank one but it just doesn’t seem as right. I keep trying to decide but you have no idea how long I’ve been trying to seeing as I’ve been deciding since my Dad took my first choice a Olie jersey when we still had black and gold. I’m really bad at making desicions. Suggestions anyone?

ONE MONTH

Okay so you all know I like to try to keep the girl-y teenage ‘OH he’s cute’ moments down to a minimum because after the first couple times it gets pretty freaking annoying however I just have to bring this up because I was rather caught off guard by this photo from the Russian Olympic camp: (I’m not sure the pictures going to show up my computers wonky today but I found it originally on Puckdaddy, ugh, Puck Headlines for today)
photo

Okay so I scanned this photo looking for familiar faces you know like Pavel, Illya, the two Alexanders, you know the usual suspects. I spotted Mr. Ambassador really easily but I wasn’t seeing any one else. I looked at it a little more carefully because it caught me as surprising Semin wouldn’t be near his BFFF then I realized he was right next to him. Holy crap. Whaaaaat? That’s Semin? Semin? ‘Magic Helmet’ Semin? With out said ‘magic helmet’ looking well… good? I mean I love Semin as a player but as a looker? No. Absolutely not. But, with his hair not a complete mess he looks cute. I was just really surprised.

Green Life 52 continues to amaze and horrify. I have yet to hear if its real or not but the website still holds an almost morbid fascination with me.

A big thanks to Hockey is My Boyfriend blog for the shout out over there!

UPDATE:I just saw Punch in the Face blog also gave us a mention so thank you!

Okay so as if my day could not get more Penguins bashing terrific this little gem came from a Malkin interview also on ugh, Puckdaddy;

Q. Did you speak with any of your teammates? How did they spend their day with the Cup?

I didn’t call anyone. Not even Sidney Crosby(notes). By the way, it was his birthday yesterday. Let’s wish him a Happy Birthday through the media. Let’s wish him health and happiness. [Geno was wrong actually. Crosby's birthday is on August 7.]

What will you give Crosby as a present?

What do you mean “what”? Me, of course!

Way to get the birthday about a month off. HELLO, its Anna’s birthday too on the seventh. Here is a little trick she taught me, and by taught me I mean she said in disgust; 8-7 as in 87 like the number he wears, these Russian lately bejeezus.

Then the gay jokes that would be slightly offensive and little raunchy roll of my tongue but I won’t type them. Note mental image: Him jumping out of giant cake; scaring shit out of Crosby. Teehee hee.

A Few Open Letters

I’m writing some letters to people so as to air out some things;

Dear Alex Ovechkin,
You don’t know me but I’m really cranky in the mornings. I mean really cranky and I feel sick if I have to get up before eight so during the school year every morning sucks. It has to do with my metabolism or something but either way I’m just super irratable. So when I saw at six thirty in the morning there was another one of your inteviews I wasn’t terribly enthusatics but I saw it was really short so I just went ahead and read it;
Q: Well who in your team is a young, promising enforcer?
AO: Semin. Have you seen how he fights?
(Read the whole thing on the Ovetjkin Blog)
That is the greatest thing I’ve read all summer. Hands down. Thanks that made my ugly morning much nicer. So even though we’ve had our differences and at one point I’m pretty sure I said I’m sick of every one talking about you and you talking but thats okay now.

Dear Semyon Varlamov,
I’m going to drop some knowledge on your butt.
THIS is what we American’s call the White House:
WhiteHouse.jpg
Our president lives there and he’s a swell fellow named Obama you might remember he mentioned Mr. Ambassador as one of the great Russian during his last trip to Russia.
So when someone says to you after you’ve mentioned you’d like to buy a house in DC “Maybe the White house?” You do not reply “There are a lot of nice house in DC maybe it would be white.” (Once again Ovetjkin blog; I thank you) He is having how you say having a laugh with you. Crack a book dummy.

Dear People of the DC Area more specifically Non-Hockey Fans,
When you see someone with the name Backstrom on the back of their shirt and the number 19 accompanying it do not butcher the name a couple times, finally get it right then ask them “Is that you last name?”
Unless its a fudgeball blond with a Swedish accent the answer will be “No” (and I kid you not some one asked me this today) It is NOT my last name; my last name isn’t changing any time soon. And trust me kid if my last name was changing to Backstrom, for any kooky reason, you all will be the first to hear me screaming “Oh my god!”
Also do not come up to me and say excitedly “THE CAPITALS?!” So I think oh cool another hockey fan! then go “Soccer right?!” Fuck it.

Your Friend and Blogger,
Meghan

Just Sit Right Back And You’ll Hear a Tale, a Tale of a Faithful Trip

Okay I know I’m a bit behind on the whole Mr. Ambassador visiting Semin thing but I’ve been working on my summer assignments, NO way Meghan, your probably saying, you work before the very last minute?!, but yes I was. So;

Honestly is there any thing cuter than a bromance? And Ovie/Semin is quickly becoming just as cute as other great bromance: Laich/Green, Churchhill and Roosevelt, House/Wilson, Sean and Gus. If you don’t know who the last two are it makes me realize I watch too much TV.

They went yachting, I emphasis because you have to say it like you make a million dollars, which makes me both think of them in cute yachting clothes or like Gilligan and the Skipper… Tell me that didn’t make you smile come on.

If you don’t know what a bromance is for shame; urban dictionary it.

Not much other hockey news. It’s still August. I’m actually looking forward to the roller hockey championships the 27th on el Versus a lot more than I normally would.

When is first practice!? I really need to know! I’ve got a lot of stuff going on in September and my mom will strangle me if I even contemplate skipping a family function everyone going to for hockey. Dead and six feet under sort of strangle. Not even envoking her favorite Capital Brooksie aka Cougar Bait would save me.

Fudgeballs!

Summer coming to a quick a jarring hault for some of us this week as we prepare desperatly for the resuming of classes monday I also start worrying over something new recently;

Who will be the ‘summer chubster’?

Thats right you guys know there is always the one guy who didn’t practice and ate a lot of cheese puffs and comes back a little more round than last time we saw them. Last summer it was Nicki. I think it’s going to be Jose this year. Anna said she thinks it might be Semin.

It’s like a bad betting game this ‘summer chubster’ business. I think its going to be Turkey Neck because someone was obviously eating out their feelings at the end of last season hence the new nickname. I have a feeling he spent his summer on his couch eating potato chips and muttering about how he isn’t appreciated enough to himself. Not that he’s all that important and I am always welcome to a new fudgeball on the team permitting it doesn’t get out of hand.

I don’t know why anyone would think it would be Semin besides the slightly disturbing information he eats when ever and what ever he wants in his last and only (?) interview this summer.

Eating whatever you want is fine and dandy when your like myself and you (and you job) have no particular vested interest in your health. Or maybe he’s like a lot of people, including myself, with those crazy high metabolisms so its unhealthy to not eat when ever you want/need to.

Whatever he looks normal and healthy non-’summer chubster’ size in the photo in the post below so I still have my money on Jose.

I guess will find out first practice and heres to hoping it isn’t to bad. Which brings to mind when is that? They have not released the date yet as far as I know. I have a few none hockey events to attend in Sept. so it’d be convient to know what is when.

I took at look at the stats of our defence men from last season because an article on Japer’s Rink about zone shifts which was extremely interesting and you should definatly read it. Had me thinking about it and may I say DISMAL. As someone whose always defended our defence as not as bad as eveyone says it is I can honestly say stats in certain areas are gross. However I now don’t understand while people don’t like Jeff Schultz he was probably our second best defence men.

Either way I will certainly being touching back on the subject in another post peferably not on a day where all I have had to eat is many cups of coffee, out of my Wash Caps mug of course, and pizza. (It’s for brunch and dinner now!)

This Is What Happens When It’s August

So today I was being a good student working on an assignment and on the table I was sitting at was a stack of books of assorted titles and genres I had pulled off my shelf, at one point over the past year I guess, and never put back. And I noticed the 07-08 official guide of the Washington Capitals in that stack. Hmm, read about allusion in literature written by a man who seriously write as if I have never read a book in my life that didn’t have pictures or read an outdated guide to the Washington Capitals… bet you know what I chose.

I’ve completely forgotten some of the players we’ve had on the team recently as two seasons ago; like I had to look up what the hell happened to Ben Clymer (KHL if your interested) and I have almost completely forgotten Steve Eminger ever played with us. Maybe because I was only here for about two, three (time travels so fast I have no idea how long I’ve been living in the Cap’s area) years of Glen Hanlon but he coached us for four years? Why did management ever let that happen?

So I had never really read the little personal profiles of the players in here I had only ever used it to look up stats and such but I did this time and I learned some interesting tid-bits:

* It seems like half the Cap’s players first jobs were as paper boys. Except for Matt Bradley who was a bag boy
* Juice wants to be an architect? Interesting I would not peg most hockey players as would be architects. What other wonders hide behind that eagle nose of his?
* Apparently the sport of squash… what exactly is squash? I’ve never been very clear on that particular sport. Well Juice likes to play it and he was about the only one who didn’t say golf so good for you sir.
* I particularly was surprised and amazed and intrigued by Semin’s personal section; “Last name is pronounced SEH-min.”… seriously that’s it! That is all his personal profile said!
* Mo was a landscaper as his first job? I think some ones just pizzazing up I mowed my neighbors lawns.
* Lots of Gladiator, Braveheart, and the Patriot as favorite movies all safe manly movies but there were a couple interesting ones; Super Bad is apparently Mike Green’s favorite, great choice in my opinion, Poti likes Slapshot, glad someone had the fore thought to say a hockey related movie, Nicki likes a movie called Hardball, I’ve never heard of it so I Barnes and Noble’d it and its a baseball movie.
* I’m frankly am glad Brent Johnson is no longer on our team because as I just found out one of his favorite shows is Rock of Love I frankly what to throw my shoe at him and tell him he’s a thirty something year old man get a real show to watch. And now I can do it and not feel guilty cause he is a Pen.
* Jeff Shultz reads? A hockey player reads? An adult male READS? Angels and Demons? Dude seriously I applaud.
* One of Nicki’s favorite food is chicken and rice? Me too!
*Is it a Canadian or a hockey player thing to like salmon an awful lot? Why not just say fish? Very specifically several players said salmon. Odd.

I then proceed to the stat pages for the team and leaders in the different stats and other such sections:
* We couldn’t have choose a picture of Mr. Ambassador with his tongue in his mouth for the team history page for the 05-06 season?
*For 85-86 there’s a picture of Craig Laughlin and we couldn’t find one where he looks highly confused?… no seriously could you guys? I love the man but he seems confused an awful lot (And I quote from memory of his saying this “I need to brush up my Canadian”)
* What’s up with the last page of the book being a full-page color picture of Olie? Foreshadowing or are there always a picture like that of a player at the end of the official guides? This is the only one I have unfortunately.

And that is pretty much what happens when a hockey fan is sitting in August trying to force them selves to get some work done. Sad and a little frightening.

Just a Little Advice

  • Snapshots this week; Dads talking about getting ‘the call’ Mike, Stecks, Poti, & Boyd’s; I like to see how much they seem like their dads. Now all we want is the Mom’s telling very embarrassing stories from their childhood. Snapshots
  • And heres a little surprise Alexander Semin being candid.Alex Ovetjkin Blog
  • Party planning tip of the week; When planning a shingdig for oh say Matt Cooke and the Stanley Cup you should always make sure the two guests of honor were actually invited. Instead of just you know planning a party and parade then getting very upset when he doesn’t show up becuase he went to another town that you know probably actually made sure he got the invite. Just a little tip from your helpful blogger.
  • Also a little journalism no-no Sovetsky Sport; publishing wildely popular hockey stars like oh say Alex Oveckin’s liscenes plate’s numbers in your widely popular newspaper.
  • Milan Jurchina’s arbitration was Tuesday and I meant to write up something but there wasn’t really anything to write up despite my following his agent on Twitter, who did tweet through out the arbitrations thought I promise it was only during breaks between each sides arguements, we should have some sort of desicion soon at the latest by tommorow.

A Little Music For Your Monday

As you may or may not be aware there was a little what I call “Ovechkin-paloza” for lack of a better term rececntly took place and thanks to the Alex Ovetjkin blog we have pictures of the likes of Ovie of course but also Semin and Mr. Fedorov. But also a video of Mr. Ambassador and Semin DJ-ing. Sure their DJ-ing so it can’t be that bad but naturally I was a little trepidatious after having experienced the musical poweress of their two teammates;

Once your dog stops howling in pain at the shrill guitar you can understand how even though I don’t know how you screw up DJ-ing I was nervous.

Why can’t you all just be like Brian Campbell?

If your parents did not go through a ‘We LOVE Canadian bands phase’ when you grew up then you may not know who the Tragically Hip are but trust me Brian Campbell did a pretty good job. And, if you’d like the determine that for yourself.
