Winter Classic 2011 and Beyond

The NHL announced officially that it is Pens vs Caps at Heinz Field for the Winter Classic. But, that cat was out of the bag a while ago. And, after the annoyance about the Pens being in a second Winter Classic already (this is about the money and the casual fan, silly goose, what is to be expected?) and my personal complaining to myself about what a pain in the ass it is to try to get tickets to this thing (You think it’s as easy as getting tickets to any ol’ regular season game you are out of your mind) had passed we focused on a second announcement that was declared;

DC is to host a Winter Classic of its own in the next 2 or 3 years.

Woot and all that jazz. I’m pretty excited about the idea of an outdoor game in DC. It will either be amazing game or a horrific weather disaster. Well we can already start to guess who the Caps potential opponent will be and where it will be hosted (Of course it will probably be in the new Nats stadium; it is really too bad we couldn’t have it in gorgeous Camden Yards but that is Baltimore, sillies.)

Weird and Wacky Search Terms: a Particularly Creepy Week of Search Terms

Okay here we go, wacky and weird search terms once again!

Things that make you say oh shit

How about this search term from the same week “mario lemieux played like a girl” Ohhhhh shit!  Buuuurn.

Varlamov Mullet

… Could you be sitting ANY creepier?

Staal kissing Malkin

I’d really rather not know…

Why does brooks laich shave his hair

Why would you EVER need to know WHY he does it? Does it matter? Maybe it’s just too hot down in Virginia compared to Canada. Maybe his head gets all stanky with long hair.

Mike green no shirt capitals

I never… want to speak of this again.

Milan Jurcina

Nice outfit, Juice, nice outfit. (By the way; when are you coming back, favoritest Slovak?!)

Round One of the NHL Playoffs

Playoffs is the busiest time of the year for the Chronicles. Our days are school/Caps (or whatever hockey is on)/eat/more work. Sleep? No time for that nonsense. And, the blog has been all Caps. So let’s take this opportunity to see what’s going on in the other series now that round one is beginning to come to a close.

THE EAST:

Flyers vs. Devils

(Credit to NHL.com)

Flyers win the series 5-1

Wow I don’t think anyone expected the Flyers to knock out the Devils in round one. And, Devils only won one of their games. The Flyers will be the team the winner of Caps/Montreal faces.

You can find anything you’d ever want to know about this series on NHL.com’s Flyers/Devils matchup section.

Buffalo vs Boston

Bruins have the series lead 3-1

Another ummm… what? The Bruins weren’t into the playoffs in to the second to last game and the Sabres have Ryan Miller in goal. Game 5 is tonight at 7 it’s do or die for Olympic American hero Ryan Miller and his Sabres.

More information on this series at NHL.com

Senators vs Penguins

Penguins lead the series 3-2

This series isn’t going to end easy. The Senators have well exceeded expectations and I stayed up to watch all three OTs the games went into last night  (longest game in Senators history by the way). No matter how this ends, and at this point I’m not entirely sure where this series is going, the Senators have a lot to be proud of. Game six for this series is tomorrow night at seven.

All you want to know about this series on NHL.com.

THE WEST:

Sharks vs Avalanche

Sharks lead the series 3-2

I admit this is the series I’ve probably payed the least attention to so I don’t have to much to say opinion wise besides that it looks like San Jose has broken out of that “playoff chokers” stereotype they have with a 5-0 win last night. Pavelski is from what I heard playing just absolutely out of his mind this series.

For everything you need to know about the Colorado/San Jose series.

Canucks vs Kings

Series is tied 2-2

I take back what I said THIS is the series I’ve unfortunately had not enough time for. I thought this match up would be pretty even and it appears to be so. Game 5 is tonight at 10 pm (on the East Coast).

More on this series.

Coyotes vs Red Wings

Series tied 2-2

This is a very exciting series. For reasons illogical to me quite a few people wrote of Phoenix before the series started. These games are fun to watch and I admit I’m on the Phoenix bandwagon at the moment, they’re a feel good story what can I say? I’m a sucker for a team of sleep walking, ice cream eating, goof balls. Game 5 tonight at 10 pm (East Coast time)

All you need to know about this series.

Blackhawks vs Predators

Series tied 2-2

This is the most surprising series of the West and maybe of the playoffs. I don’t think even Preds fans expected them to do so well. However the Blackhawks started to look like themselves again last night with a 3-0 win last night (or so I heard Versus did not show the game due to the Pens and Sens game) Game 5 is tomorrow night at 3 pm.

All you need to know.

That is your NHL playoffs round one so far wrap up. Later today you, me, AHL playoffs round one wrap up; let’s do this.

Chim Chim Cher-ee….

Caps swept their regular season series with the Pens by winning 6-3 tonight. Ovie broke his long goal draught with not only 1 goal but 2. Overall is was nice to see an inspired effort by the Caps pnce again.

Fleury started the game but was pulled and Johnny was put in, who put on a surprisingly good show. In our net Varly looked pretty good for the whole game for perhaps the first time since his come back from injury. Overall the Caps in general looked fairly good.

Our Weagle Scout of the Game:

Jeff Schultz

That may seem fairly random but Schultz had a quietly REALLY awesome game. He was a poke checking  fiend and was a PLUS FIVE for the night.

In fact the only minus for the entire Caps team was S. Morrison but no surprise there. That was a nice way to end the last ever Caps vs Pens game at Mellon Arena.

A Mystery from the Very Beginning Is Finally Solved

Way back in September when the Chronicles was still fledging and I’m sure most of you reading this had no idea who or what the Chronicles was, I had a bit of a mystery on my hands, which I posted about on the blog;

While driving just outside of Pittsburgh, northbound, I saw a man I could have sworn was Marc Andre Fleury driving a brand new Ferrari convertible. A gorgeous car with dealership plate holders for a DC dealership. This was the weekend the Pens had gone to visit the White House and I thought maybe, just maybe, it really could be Marc Andre Fleury driving his brand new car up. How many 20 somethings drive brand new Ferrari convertibles and wear expensive designer sunglasses? Or I thought I could be really bored from being in the car all day, going to some where I didn’t really want to go and I was just trying to make something out of nothing.

It wasn’t really important I could care less about seeing a Penguin but I posted about it just to see if anyone would know about it and because I have to be right about everything ever. But, nothing came out of it and I completely forgot about it.

That is until tonight. I was out with some friends and we were talking one a Pens fan and the other is fellow Chronicles blogger Anna. Well we what ever we were talking about, I can’t remember now, it jogged my memory about the MAF car thing. I mentioned it vaguely because I couldn’t remember if I had ever even told the Pens fan about.

WELL Pens fan burst out laughing and says “OH! We found out it really was his car you saw! I saw a picture of it online. I told Anna but she told me not to tell you!” because apparently it was more fun that way.

You. Guys. Suck. I was RIGHT. As usual. I’m always right. So I really did see Marc Andre Fleury. And, several people told me I had to be mistaken. I WIN.

So mystery solved. I saw Marc Andre Fleury and I’m always right about everything. As usual. Oh, and I need new friends.

Weird and Wacky Search Terms

Weird and Wacky search terms is a semi-regular post in which we delve in to our search terms and see what weird things people have been searching and even weirder if we can help find what they’re looking for. (We recieved a lot of new readers this past week so just a quick introduction)

Let’s start out of with a bang:

Matt bradley on jizz to ovie

I don’t know how Semin’s nickname got so very confused in some ones head but… I don’t even know.

Evgeni malkin nick jonas

I didn’t make this promise.

Staahl brothers

This is the first picture that comes up when you google image that. First search result: Staal Brother Drinking Game! (Play at your own risk)

Alex ovechkin’s hockey pants

The same thing has come up before but with Patrick Sharp. I have NO clue what they mean… But here a picture of Ovie in his infamous jean/sweatpants things.

Caps mike green hair 2010

This is why we call him “Duck Ass”.

Backstrom chess

Scarlet Caps? Not sure I actually google imaged this and it came up off the Chronicles.

Semin lovely

Hehe… sorry I’m five. But, hey when you are a snazzy dresser like that how are you anything but lovely?

So Much Fail So Little Time

Before we get to the fail let’s look at a win: I found this beauty thanks to Twitter this afternoon. Not sure who made it but who ever it was I love it.

Pretty much everything is perfect in Caps land. It’s snowing in the DMV area, our team has broken a franchise record of wins and now go on to challenge the NHL record of straight wins (set by the Pens; if you were needing motivation), the Caps are chugging along and it’s 2006?!

The game is in 2006  and SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY if you couldn’t figure it out by the fifteen Sundays. And, it’s 12 M eastern time! When is M?

Am I down the rabbit hole? Left is right and right is left and it’s 12 M o clock and 2006.  My head hurts.

So it’s agreed; We all meet on Sunday at 12 M o clock EASTERN time mind you, not 12 M central time, in 2006 to watch the these Captials:

Take on these Pens:

Yeah I want to go cry in a corner too. Wishful thinking NBC but no the Nothing but Crosby network your babies are facing these Caps:

Yeah, that’s a very faily telestration I know.
